Germany and Austria are positioning themselves on the green deal

The platforms Forst & Holz Deutschland and Forst Holz Papier Österreich have published a joint, transnational declaration on the Green Deal. The industry representatives call for the services and potential of sustainable forest management and wood use to be more closely integrated and used in the climate protection concept for Europe, the Green Deal.

Both platforms welcome the ambitious project of a climate-neutral continent until 2050, which was presented in early December 2019. However, this goal can only be achieved with greater consideration and involvement of the forest and wood cluster. The use of wood is the key to success on the path to climate neutrality. An important basis for the climate-friendly – because CO2-binding and replacing fossil materials – wood is the sustainable, multifunctional forest management in Europe. The umbrella organizations see a comprehensive EU forest strategy as the means of choice. This is to strengthen integrative and active forest management and timber use.
