Vietnam: export up, import down in the first half of 2020

Vietnam Administration of Forestry reports earnings of just over US$5 billion from wood product exports in the first half of 2020, up 2.4% year on year. In June alone export earnings topped US$900 million. Imports to Vietnam decreased by 8.5% compared to the first half of 2019. Their value reached US$1.1 billion.

Business leaders have indicated that prospect for increased wood product exports in the third quarter this year are not yet certain as the effect of the pandemic on businesses in Vietnam’s key markets, the United States, the European Union and Japan is fragile.
