In 2018, German producer prices for industrial wood products followed only one direction: upwards. Around the turn of the year, this trend has stalled. For the first time in February, there is a clear downward trend in the month-on-month comparison.
Compared to the same month last year, the upward trend is still largely intact. Only four of the 26 listed values are in the red: battens, solid construction boards, raw chipboard and laminate flooring. Lumber stagnates. The rest has risen since February 2018. The highest increases are showing finger-jointed softwood, narrow boards, pellets and OSB boards, all with over 4% increase.
In the short term, looking back on January 2019, it looks the other way around. Only four figures have risen: pellets, MDF boards as well as melamine and high pressure coated chipboard. Six figures are stagnating, 16 are falling, most notably OSB boards, followed by raw chipboards and wood chips. The remaining 13 lower indices show reductions of less than 1%.
