San Group Inc.’s sawmill under construction at Port Alberni in British Columbia is well on schedule for its March 2020 completion date, the company said in an update.
San Group originally announced in December 2018 that it would build a new mill on a site next to Catalyst Paper, but in April this year said it had moved the project to its Coulson Mill site due to complaints from the public about potential noise.
At the time, San Group CEO Kamal Sanghera said that the company would construct the sawmill at its Coulson site and a new remanufacturing plant at the Catalyst Paper site at the same time. New plans were to be submitted to the City of Port Alberni for the 100,000 sq. ft. reman plant, which will include five dry kilns and other hi-tech machinery.
